ABELIO: 1,5 M€ in FEDER funding to develop artificial intelligence for agriculture
Occitanie· Édition logicielle & SaaS
How a Toulouse-based technology company secured 1,5 million euros in European funding to develop a digital platform designed to support farmers from sowing through to harvest. Through the NUMAGRI 3.0 project, Abelio obtained 1,5 M€ in FEDER funding to enhance its Tour de Plaine 2.0 platform, which combines satellite data, weather data and artificial intelligence for agricultural decision support.

The company
Abelio is a company based in Toulouse, founded in 2018 by Grégoire Dupré and Philippe Caumes, specializing in developing digital solutions for farms.
Its business consists of harnessing different data sources — satellite imagery, weather data, field observations and agronomic data — to offer decision-support tools: nitrogen fertilization, crop disease forecasting, weed detection, irrigation management, crop growth monitoring, and plot potential analysis.
The ambition is to enable farmers to make better decisions, reduce inputs, and improve the profitability of their farms.
The initial need
Farms are facing several transformations: larger farms that are becoming more complex to monitor, growing pressure on production costs, climate conditions that are harder to anticipate, tighter environmental requirements, and the need to optimize the use of water, fertilizer and plant protection products. Existing digital tools can be difficult to use or too complex for farmers' day-to-day needs. Abelio therefore identifies an opportunity: to develop a simpler platform, integrating several services and capable of turning agricultural data into recommendations that can be used directly in the field.
- Develop a simpler, more comprehensive digital platform.
- Improve existing decision-support tools.
- Expand the features offered to farm operators.
- Reduce inputs (water, fertilizer, plant protection products).
- Make it easier to monitor large farms.
The funded project
The NUMAGRI 3.0 project aims to enhance the digital solutions developed by Abelio, in particular through the Tour de Plaine 2.0 platform, which aims to centralize several tools within a single environment covering the different stages of agricultural production. Artificial intelligence is used to analyze data and provide recommendations tailored to the characteristics of each plot.
The project seeks to make agricultural technologies more accessible, particularly for farms that do not necessarily have significant technical resources.
- Agricultural traceability: tracking production from the field through to sale.
- Smart fertilization: tailoring fertilizer application to crops' actual needs.
- Pest detection: tools for detecting insects and monitoring crops.
- Water management: irrigation control based on weather, satellite and agronomic data.
- Extension to new crops, particularly viticulture.
- Decision support for sowing, tailored to each plot.
