The company

Food RADARS (Reinforcement Actions to Develop Agrofood-ecosystem Resilience and Sustainability) is a European project launched on July 1, 2024 for a four-year period, until June 30, 2028. It aims to strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of agri-food companies in the France-Wallonia-Flanders area.

The lead partner is HD Gestion, an entity associated with Hainaut Développement in Belgium. The operational partnership brings together nine French, Walloon, and Flemish organizations: on the French side, Eurasanté (Hauts-de-France), the Chambre d'agriculture Nord-Pas-de-Calais, and the CCI Marne Ardennes; on the Walloon side, HD Gestion, AKT CCI Luxembourg Belge, and Wagralim; on the Flemish side, POM West-Vlaanderen, Inagro, and Flanders' FOOD.

Its ambition is to bring together companies of different sizes — from farmer-processors to industrial SMEs — by pooling the technical skills, business networks, and innovation resources of the three territories.

The initial need

Agri-food companies in the cross-border area needed pooled support to innovate, secure their supply chains, make their packaging more sustainable, and win new markets — needs that no single regional structure could cover alone across three territories.

  • Access technical, scientific, and regulatory diagnostics and expertise.
  • Develop more sustainable solutions (local sourcing, packaging, logistics).
  • Train in sales, storytelling, and preparing for trade shows.
  • Access new cross-border commercial opportunities.

The funded project

Food RADARS is organized around three strands. Strand 1 (Innovation and resilience) offers diagnostics and innovation scans, access to scientific, technical, and regulatory expertise, visits to companies and pilot facilities, and co-creation workshops. Strand 2 (Sustainability of food chains) works on three pilot topics: sourcing local and sustainable raw materials, more sustainable and economically viable packaging, and optimizing transport and logistics. Strand 3 (Commercial development) offers sales and storytelling training, preparation for trade shows, B2B meetings with buyers, and introductions to distributors, grocers, and restaurateurs.

This project is different from an individual grant paid to an SME (such as Rue Traversette or vorteX-io): it is a collective support project, where agri-food companies are the end beneficiaries of the services, not the direct recipients of the FEDER grant.

  • Diagnostics and individual support for agri-food SMEs.
  • Three pilot actions on local sourcing, sustainable packaging, and logistics.
  • Sales training, trade show preparation, and cross-border B2B meetings.

The scheme used

Interreg France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen 2021-2027 program (FEDER), CrossS3 project portfolio, business support priority / applied growth and innovation, specific objective of strengthening the sustainable competitiveness of SMEs.

Results and outcomes

  • Achieved

The project has been running since July 2024 and continues until June 2028. It organizes individual support actions (diagnostics, coaching), collective actions (webinars, company visits, trade shows, B2B meetings), and three pilot actions on local sourcing, sustainable packaging, and logistics. As the project is still ongoing, these elements do not constitute a final assessment; precise quantitative indicators (number of companies supported, cooperating organizations) could not be verified against an independent primary source and are therefore not included here.
