Funder

Chambre de Métiers et de l'Artisanat de la région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, with support from ADEME.

Scheme

Grant for the purchase of cargo bikes and trailers for exclusively professional use.

Indicative amount

Up to €2,000 for an electrically assisted cargo bike or trailer; up to €1,000 without assistance, capped at 50% of the eligible cost.

Territories

Areas covered by the PPA (air quality protection plans) for Grenoble Alpes Dauphiné, the Lyon metropolitan area, Vallée de l'Arve, the Clermont-Ferrand metropolitan area and Loire-Forez, subject to the regulations and their exclusions.

Why this grant?

For craft businesses, local trips, deliveries and call-outs can account for a significant share of costs and emissions. Cargo bikes and trailers can be a complementary solution to a utility vehicle, depending on the loads carried, the distances involved and how the business operates. The grant aims to reduce the upfront cost of equipment suited to professional use.

Which equipment can be funded?

The regulations published by the CMA cover the purchase of a new two- or three-wheeled cargo bike and/or bike trailer, with or without electric assistance, for professional use. Cargo bikes with lead-acid batteries, as well as family-type models and trailers, are excluded. Accessories, options and incidental costs may not be included in the eligible base; check the regulations before costing the project.

How much is the grant?

The regulations state a maximum coverage of 50% of the eligible new purchase cost. The stated caps are €2,000 for an electric cargo bike or electric trailer and €1,000 for equipment without assistance. The amount actually awarded depends on the cost retained, the equipment's compliance, the programme's conditions and available funding. The regulations also set a limit per business (SIREN number): check the full text before planning for multiple pieces of equipment.

Who can benefit?

The scheme targets craft businesses registered with the National Business Register, bearing the designation "artisanale" or "artisanale réglementée", with an activity code falling under the trades directory as described by the CMA. The establishment, head office or branch must be located in a municipality covered by one of the relevant PPAs. Eligibility therefore cannot be inferred simply from being a craftsperson in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes: the exact address and the regulations' territorial exclusions must be checked.

How to prepare your application?

  1. Check that the business meets the definition of a craft business used by the scheme. 2. Verify that the establishment is located in an eligible municipality, based on the official territorial list. 3. Define new equipment suited to professional use and check the exclusions. 4. Read the full regulations, the application procedures and any applicable combination-of-aid rules. 5. Contact the CMA before ordering, to confirm that the scheme is open and what documents are required. Do not treat an expense as eligible without confirmation from the scheme administrator.

Timeline and availability

The Capital OS reference database shows a deadline of 31 December 2027, subject to available funding. The CMA's publications confirm that the scheme launched in January 2026, but the deadline does not guarantee that funds will remain available until that date. Confirm the dates, any requirement to apply in advance, and the selection procedures on the official page before making any commitment.

Combining aid and points of caution

The official launch announcement states that combining this grant with other public aid may be possible. This does not mean that every combination is automatically authorised: other support received must be declared and the applicable rules complied with. The territorial criteria, the requirement that equipment be new, exclusively professional use, and the equipment exclusions are essential points to check.

Is the grant limited to electric bikes?

No. The regulations cover equipment with or without electric assistance, with different caps. Electric equipment can reach €2,000 and equipment without assistance €1,000, always capped at 50% of the eligible cost.

Are all craft businesses in the region eligible?

No. Location within a territory covered by a relevant PPA and the craft registration criteria must be checked. The entire region is not automatically covered.

Can the equipment be purchased before applying?

Do not assume so. The regulations and the scheme administrator's instructions must be checked to find out when the application must be submitted and which expenses can be taken into account.

Is the grant guaranteed until 2027?

No. A deadline shown in the reference database does not guarantee that funding will be available. The scheme is announced subject to the budget envelope; check that it is open before committing to the expense.
