Diagnostic and Project Support Studies for Anaerobic Digestion Installations
ADEME supports assessment, feasibility and project support studies for anaerobic digestion projects led by local authorities, agricultural or food-processing companies and certain associations, in the regions covered by the 2026 scheme.
Before building an anaerobic digestion unit, the applicant must confirm the availability of feedstock, technical feasibility, the outlet for biogas or biomethane and the project’s economics. ADEME funds preliminary studies to avoid committing to an investment without checking the feedstock, site constraints and operating model.

Who can apply
Local authorities, agricultural and food-processing companies and associations (except those benefiting from the tax credit) may be eligible. Geographical coverage is limited to the regions listed on ADEME’s 2026 page.
Eligibility conditions
The study must help decide whether an anaerobic digestion project is relevant, taking into account available organic material, waste treatment, energy production and digestate management. The application must comply with the relevant specifications and justify the need for the study before investment.
What the scheme covers
Assessment studies and feasibility studies prior to an anaerobic digestion installation, covering in particular feedstock availability and quality, process choice, energy outlets, digestate management, regulatory constraints and economic viability.
Amount and funding terms
The amount depends on the type of study and ADEME’s applicable 2026 conditions. The official page refers to the eligibility and financing conditions and gives no universal cap; the applicable rate must be checked for the applicant, the area and the chosen service.
How to apply
Define the planned feedstock, annual tonnages and their origin, the biogas/biomethane outlet and site constraints. Consult ADEME’s specification templates, contact the regional office to confirm eligibility and apply on AGIR before ordering the study.
Timeline
Shown as running from 1 January to 31 December 2026. The page does not cover all regions: check the list of areas and the procedure with the regional office before committing.
