Studies on Heating or Cooling Networks Supplied by Renewable Energy and/or Heat Recovery

ADEME supports local authorities and companies with studies on creating or extending heating or cooling networks supplied by renewable and/or recovered energy, in all regions.

This aid comes in upstream of a heating or cooling network to be supplied by renewable or recovered energy. It allows route, connection, production and demand scenarios to be compared before deciding to create a network or extend an existing one.

Who can apply

Local authorities and companies with a project for a heating or cooling network supplied by renewable and/or recovered energy. The scheme is available in all regions.

Eligibility conditions

The study must concern a network supplied by renewable and recovered energy (EnR&R) and aim to create or extend it. It can cover the master plan for a local network or the feasibility of a network linking several buildings. The scenario must analyse needs, heat resources, route and economic viability.

What the scheme covers

Opportunity studies, master plans and feasibility studies for creating or extending a renewable heating or cooling network: heat needs, potential connections, energy resource, technical scenario and business model.

Amount and funding terms

The rate and cost base are set in ADEME’s 2026 conditions for heating and cooling network studies. The public page gives no single flat amount: the study cost must be established according to the current specifications and scale.

How to apply

Map the buildings and heating/cooling needs, list available EnR&R sources and existing networks, then consult ADEME’s regional office. Use the relevant specifications and apply on AGIR before ordering the study.

Timeline

Running from 1 January to 31 December 2026, in all regions. Prior contact with the regional office is advised before applying.
