Heat and Cold Production Installations from a Geothermal Temperate Water Loop
ADEME supports local authorities, companies, public bodies and associations creating a geothermal ambient-temperature water loop to produce heating and cooling; projects must reach at least 25 MWh/year of renewable heat and the aid is calculated on an economic analysis.
A geothermal ambient-temperature water loop allows several buildings to share an energy loop supplied by the ground, wastewater, groundwater or another compatible resource. ADEME can support installations producing at least 25 MWh/year of renewable heat, subject to performance criteria and a mandatory feasibility study.

Who can apply
Local authorities, companies, public bodies and associations, in all regions. The project must concern a geothermal ambient-temperature water loop using a borehole field, groundwater, wastewater or surface/sea water, under the technical conditions.
Eligibility conditions
Minimum renewable heat output of 25 MWh/year. A feasibility study is mandatory. ADEME examines in particular the heat pumps’ COP, output, the loop’s EnR&R share, the energy performance of connected buildings and, depending on the project, social and governance criteria.
What the scheme covers
Investment in a geothermal ambient-temperature water loop using a borehole field, groundwater, wastewater or sea/surface water, with equipment to produce and distribute heating and cooling to connected buildings.
Amount and funding terms
The aid is calculated on the basis of an economic analysis, not a universal flat rate. Eligibility depends notably on annual output, the heat pumps’ coefficient of performance (COP), the loop’s share of renewable and recovered energy (EnR&R) and project costs; consult the conditions “Boucle d’eau tempérée géothermique – 2026” to cost the support.
How to apply
Commission the mandatory feasibility study and calculate annual output, COP and EnR&R share. Prepare the loop diagram, connected buildings, financing plan and expected performance, then contact ADEME before applying on AGIR.
Timeline
Running from 1 January to 31 December 2026, in all regions. Prior discussion with the regional office is recommended, notably to validate the minimum performance and EnR&R share.
