Feasibility Study for Solar Thermal Installation

ADEME supports feasibility studies for solar thermal installations on buildings, processes or heat networks for companies, local authorities, associations and public bodies, provided they use an RGE Études-certified provider or one with equivalent skills.

Before ordering a solar thermal installation, the feasibility study checks the solar potential, heat needs, sizing and operating conditions. ADEME requires the solution to be studied as part of a wider approach: reducing needs, pooling where relevant and looking at local waste heat and renewable resources.

Who can apply

Companies, local authorities, associations and public-sector bodies may be eligible in the regions listed on ADEME’s 2026 page. The project must concern a solar thermal installation covering heat needs.

Eligibility conditions

The study must follow the EnR’Choix approach and justify prior reduction of needs, any pooling, waste heat availability and the value of solar thermal among local resources. The provider must be RGE Études-certified or demonstrate equivalent skills accepted by ADEME.

What the scheme covers

Feasibility studies for solar thermal installations dedicated to a building or process, installations connected to a heat network, and combined solar systems. Deliverables must confirm technical and economic feasibility, sizing, technical solutions and the financial, administrative and legal arrangements.

Amount and funding terms

The funding rate falls under ADEME’s 2026 conditions “Études en faveur de la transition écologique” and depends on the service and applicant. The aid page publishes no universal cap; consult the official scale and the specifications for a dedicated installation, heat network or combined solar system.

How to apply

Choose the specifications for the technology, consult an RGE Études-certified (or equivalent) consultancy, then gather quotes and the site’s energy data. Contact ADEME’s regional office before applying on AGIR; do not sign the order before checking the rules on when work may start.

Timeline

Shown as running from 1 January to 31 December 2026, in the regions listed by ADEME. Applications are mostly reviewed by the regional office and prior contact is advised.

Must the consultancy be qualified?

Yes, RGE Études-certified or with equivalent skills demonstrated under ADEME’s conditions.

Does the aid fund the panels and works?

This scheme covers the feasibility study; the investment may then fall under separate aid for solar thermal installations.

Which alternatives must be examined?

Reducing needs, pooling, waste heat recovery and other local renewable energies, following the EnR’Choix approach.
