Automatic Support for Cinema Exhibition
Amount or form of support: the percentage depends on the band of tax paid and the number of screens; additional rights or an advance can be requested if the rights acquired are not enough, and other grants received for the same works are deducted. Operations targeted: each cinema has a support account, credited with rights generated by a percentage of the special tax on ticket prices, which reimburses works and investment for cinema operation. To check before applying: an exhibitor that does not own the business can be delegated management of the support account, only to modernise the cinema it runs.

Who can apply
The owner of the cinema business (fonds de commerce) or, where there is no such business, of the building, for cinemas not specialising in screening films classified as pornographic or inciting violence.
Eligibility conditions
An exhibitor that does not own the business can have the account holder delegate management of the support account to it, but this delegation is only intended to allow it to modernise the cinema it manages and in which it has made or will make investments. In this case, the exhibitor manages the support account on behalf of the owner.
What the scheme covers
Each cinema has a support account credited with rights generated by a percentage of the special tax on the ticket price. The sums on this account allow the owner of the cinema business or its operator to be reimbursed for works and investment for cinema operation. Eligible investment: purchase and installation of projection equipment; technical improvement of projection conditions, including new projection techniques; accessibility for disabled people; technical studies and inspections of cinemas; construction, improvement, refurbishment and fit-out of buildings; purchase, replacement and installation of equipment needed for continued operation or modernisation of equipment, provided the equipment is not intended to be stored; IT equipment linked to cinema operation; maintenance of projection and sound equipment, IT equipment, lifts and elevators, and heating and air-conditioning systems; technical media and equipment needed to promote the cinemas’ programming; compliance with hygiene, safety and planning rules; building car parks and improving access to cinemas; fitting out buildings and buying, replacing, installing and maintaining equipment to ensure or strengthen the safety of people and property; buying and renting hardware and software, or related subscription costs, and subscribing to services used to set up and develop data use, electronic communication and digital marketing; training staff and volunteers in using and maintaining digital projection equipment; welcoming disabled people; using new tools and methods linked to data use, electronic communication and digital marketing. Excluded: works and investment aimed at generating revenue additional to the main activity of screening films; costs relating to the upkeep of the premises and consumable supplies of the cinema or its outbuildings.
Amount and funding terms
The percentage depends on the band of tax paid and the number of screens. If the rights acquired are not enough to pay the full allocation, the exhibitor can ask for additional rights to be paid as they are generated by its operation, or ask for an advance. If the works submitted for reimbursement from automatic support received other grants (CNC selective aid, Regional Council, European grant, etc.), these must be reported to the CNC and are deducted from the total amount of works excluding VAT.
