Studies for Biowaste Management by Economic Operators
ADEME supports private biowaste treatment operators with studies prior to sanitisation or composting installations; the grant can reach 80% of eligible study costs.
This aid funds the preliminary studies private treatment operators need before investing in biowaste management. It covers in particular sanitisation and the creation or adaptation of composting platforms; biowaste producers themselves are not the target beneficiaries.

Who can apply
Private operators that treat biowaste. Biowaste producers — shops, restaurants, canteens or other producers — are not eligible for this study aid as producers.
Eligibility conditions
The project must prepare a biowaste treatment or recovery installation. The application must match ADEME’s 2026 specifications and concern a private treatment operator; studies relating to anaerobic digestion fall under a separate scheme.
What the scheme covers
Studies prior to creating or adapting a composting platform, sanitising biowaste and preparing materials before treatment. The application must present incoming flows, volumes, the planned technical solution and the sizing of the installation.
Amount and funding terms
Confirmed maximum rate: up to 80% of eligible study costs. The rate actually granted depends on the 2026 eligibility and financing conditions and the accepted budget; this rate applies to the preliminary study, not to the treatment investment itself.
How to apply
Download the 2026 conditions for biowaste studies, the cost categorisation guide and the application guide. Prepare the study specifications and quote, then apply on AGIR before ordering the service. Check that the applicant is a treatment operator and not simply a biowaste producer.
