Who can apply

Retail and craft businesses, liberal professions or self-employed workers carrying out an activity behind the shop window, located in the retail heart of Montpellier and with annual turnover not exceeding one million euros for the premises concerned. Areas with old built heritage are given priority. Excluded from the aid: private individuals whose shop window lights a dwelling, new constructions, public buildings; shopfronts facing a private space not visible from a space open to public traffic; buildings subject to an administrative demolition procedure (insalubrity or danger order); property dealers, intermediaries or property operators.

Eligibility conditions

Beneficiaries must apply in advance to the City Hall for authorisation; have the works carried out by building professionals registered in the RNE or by a qualified auto-entrepreneur (SIREN number); follow the recommendations set at the time of the formal commitment under the prior declaration of works; and start the works between 1 June 2021 and 1 June 2026 (this window has now closed) and complete them no later than one year after the works start date. The works must notably improve the appearance and aesthetics of the façade, in keeping with the building’s typology. If a shopfront does not comply with the regulations, only a works programme bringing all elements of the shopfront into compliance will be subsidised.

What the scheme covers

Not eligible: solid roller shutters; new air-conditioning units and heat pumps, as well as refrigerated counters or removable counters; items placed behind the shop window (lights, screens, decorative items, etc.); all items installed on the façade (decorative and advertising items, menu holders, spotlights, etc.)
