Studies and Remediation Works for Brownfield Sites — Green Fund

Under the Green Fund, ADEME supports local authorities, companies, developers, property developers, social landlords and other applicants (excluding individuals) with studies and remediation works on brownfield sites from former classified installations (ICPE) or falling under the Mining Code.

Redeveloping a polluted brownfield site starts with reliable soil characterisation and a management plan suited to the site’s future use. The Green Fund can support pollution studies and remediation works, including certain demolition, asbestos removal or ecological restoration operations, subject to conditions on the site’s origin and the redevelopment project.

Eligibility conditions

For the Green Fund strand described, the brownfield site must come from a former classified installation (ICPE) or fall under the Mining Code. The project must follow the national methodology for managing polluted sites and soils and justify the planned redevelopment. Regional specificities may apply, as the Green Fund is managed by regional prefects.

What the scheme covers

Pollution and soil management studies in line with the NF X 31-620 standard services, followed by remediation works and the selected management measures. Where needed, demolition, asbestos removal from buildings and ecological soil restoration can also be supported.

Amount and funding terms

The rate and amount are set according to the eligibility and financing conditions “Aide études et travaux reconversion friches – 2026” and the Green Fund’s regional specificities. The page does not publish a single cap for all brownfield sites; the cost base depends on the management plan, future uses and the costs accepted during the review.

How to apply

Consult the 2026 Green Fund conditions and the “Recycler les friches” page, then contact the DREAL (regional environment directorate) for the region concerned before applying. Prepare the pollution studies, future use scenario, management plan, works budget and redevelopment details; apply via AGIR following local instructions.

Timeline

Shown as running from 1 January to 31 December 2026. Regional prefects manage the Green Fund and local specificities may apply; discussing with the DREAL before applying is recommended.
