Ecodesign Investments to Improve Environmental Performance

The 2026 aid is for companies investing to improve the environmental performance of a product or service over its life cycle. Depending on the project and company size, investment aid can range from 15% to 60%. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, within the available budget and no later than 31 December 2026.

Have you identified, through an ecodesign assessment or a feasibility study, investments that would reduce the environmental impact of your products or services? ADEME can support scaling up — equipment, process adaptation, prototypes or pre-production — when the project is part of a documented ecodesign approach.

Who can apply

The scheme is for companies in all sectors that make the investment and market the ecodesigned product, process or service. Projects can concern, among others, manufacturing, food, sustainable fashion, digital or services. Costs must be linked to an ecodesign approach and a measurable environmental improvement.

Eligibility conditions

The project must build on a prior ecodesign assessment or feasibility study. The expected improvement must be assessed on multiple criteria and over the life cycle, not on a single indicator chosen in isolation. The company must separate project-related costs from routine investment, justify the environmental gains and provide the documents requested in the application guide.

What the scheme covers

Eligible investments can include proven technologies to produce or market an ecodesigned offer, work and tests on prototypes or pre-production of an innovative solution, and certain process innovation or breakthrough projects. Depending on the sector, the project may aim for an EU Ecolabel, better environmental labelling or an offer that reduces impacts across the whole life cycle. Routine costs with no demonstrated link to ecodesign should not be assumed eligible.

Amount and funding terms

ADEME indicates an aid rate of 15% to 60% depending on the type of project and company size. The calculation can be based on eligible extra costs compared with a counterfactual scenario, or fall under the de minimis rules, depending on the applicable framework. Under de minimis, the general cap stated is €300,000 of aid over three years per company. The maximum rate is therefore not automatic: it depends on the analysis of the application and the accepted costs.

How to apply

1. Formalise the assessment or study identifying the impacts and improvement levers. 2. Describe the current product or service, the target solution and the life-cycle indicators. 3. Cost the investments and any environmental extra costs separately. 4. Consult the 2026 eligibility conditions and the cost categorisation guide. 5. Apply on the ADEME platform before committing costs and keep the technical and financial evidence.

Timeline

ADEME’s 2026 page indicates a period from 1 January to 31 December 2026, with rolling applications. Funding remains subject to available budget and the aid may close before the deadline if funds run out. Check that applications are still being accepted before finalising your application.
