What the scheme covers
Generating films are feature films that have received investment and production approval and whose first cinema screening was less than 6 years ago. Short film programmes are also generating, provided at least 70% of them are produced by at least one production company admitted to financial support for the film industry (see the decree of 24 February 1999) and hold a release certificate issued after 1 January 1995. Automatic support is used by the publisher on its own initiative, when it chooses. Each publisher builds up rights to automatic support on an account opened at the CNC as it makes its monthly turnover declarations.
Amount and funding terms
Automatic support is allocated in proportion to the turnover the publisher made on “generating films”. The rate is currently 4.5%. Entitlement to support is calculated film by film, continuously, over a precise period: 6 years from the first cinema screening for feature films, and 5 years from the publisher’s first declaration to the CNC for short films. Monthly turnover declarations must be sent to the CNC within six months of the last day of the month concerned; after this date, that month’s turnover can no longer be taken into account in calculating the support in your automatic financial support account for video publishing.
