Support for Independent Publishing

The aid for independent publishing aims at supporting independent publishing in the Grand Est region. Before applying, check the beneficiaries, eligible operations, caps, combination rules and timetable. This information remains to be confirmed until all the applicable terms have been checked.

The aid for independent publishing concerns publishing books and editorial projects led by an independent organisation based in the Grand Est. To assess a project, compare its objective, the profile of the business or applicant and the planned costs with the scheme’s criteria. The catalogue information is a starting point: the financial parameters, procedure and opening must be confirmed in the funder’s current documents.

Who can apply

The catalogue mentions: independent publishing organisations based in the Grand Est region. Not eligible: publishing organisations publishing at the author’s expense or offering paid services to authors; organisations based mainly on print on demand. Area associated in the catalogue: territorial aid. Check the required location, legal form, headcount, sector exclusions and tax/social security obligations in the official rules.

Eligibility conditions

Conditions available in the catalogue: the beneficiary must: regularly produce a catalogue of which at least 50% consists of books written by authors other than the head of the organisation (except for creations and takeovers); be able to show that a proper contract has been offered to and signed with the author(s); obtain an ISBN and make the legal deposit; where previously supported, provide evidence of the earlier publications for which DRAC or Regional aid was granted; respect the rules of the intellectual property code and professional practice in the book chain, namely paying authors in accordance with regulations and having a general-public distribution strategy. For publications: under a joint State–Region policy supporting the ecological transition of the book chain, publication projects making the following manufacturing choices will be given financial priority — paper that is either recycled (at least 50% recycled fibres) or certified FSC®, PEFC™ or EU Ecolabel; a printer holding the Imprim’Vert mark or ISO 14001 certification or any equivalent environmental recognition. This summary does not replace the rules. Confirm in particular the size and age criteria, any difficulty, public aid caps, combination and the date from which the project may start.
